About the Workshops

Join us at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum for a Creative Aging workshop series, inspired by our own Mr. Chickenpants! This series is geared toward the Creative Aging community, or older adults interested in engaging with the arts.

This workshop series will take place over the first two Saturdays in April. Please try to attend both workshops. Registration on Eventbrite is required for both.

Drawing Animals with Denise Karabinus – April 2nd, 2022

The first, on April 2nd from 10:00am – 1:00pm will be “Drawing Animals” with instructor Denise Karabinus. We will take a whimsical and light-hearted approach to drawing imaginative animals. In this class, you will develop several fun-loving animals to keep you company. This is a great activity for family members to laugh and explore together. Consider taking the class with a loved one and turn your drawings into a small book in the Mr. Chickenpants Flip Book class the following week.

Flip Books with Tamara Moan – April 9th, 2022

The second workshop will take place on April 9th from 10:00am – 1:00pm with instructor Tamara Moan. This workshop will focus on constructing a simple stitched flip book building off the previous week’s animal drawing workshop. The star of our work will be Mr. Chickenpants, the whimsical sculpture in the HiSAM garden. If participants did not attend the drawing workshop, no problem! We’ll also have alternating colored pages featuring our warm-up drawing exercise and other materials available.
